The children in the story are more attracted to their electronic nursery than by any interaction with their parents. Indeed the power of the images and sensory output in the nursery consumes and emboldens the children. When their parents shut down the nursery, the children take their revenge.
But even as the story begins, we are given hints about the the inherent danger of technology. The house the family lives in does everything for them. Daily chores, in which people share time and tasks, are eliminated. Life has been made too easy by electricity and its offspring: cold, lifeless machinery and mesmerizing technology. People are left dependent, unproductive, and alone.
