Students Speak Out On Overall Experience

“The first few weeks of my freshman year, I wondered if I would have been happier at a larger and less liberal college where it may have been easier to feel special. I thought that most everyone at Vassar was artsy, creative types, and it felt overwhelming at first and impossible to feel singular. Now, I cannot imagine being anywhere else. I had miscalculated Vassar in the first few weeks as well; not everyone is 'artsy'—the people at Vassar are all incredibly different and totally elusive of labeling or typing. I also don't think of Vassar as the 'bubble' everyone says it is; people here look both inwards and outwards.”

“I like the place. The people here are a lot of fun and very laid–back in comparison to Ivy League schools or other prominent liberal arts colleges where people are competitive. The academic regimen isn't as rigorous as I would like. I have to work to find courses that are difficult, and it's definitely possible to go through Vassar without really doing much work at all. Sometimes, I wish the weather was nicer and that there was more to do in town, but I really like it here.”
