While Valparaiso University is of high esteem in most academic fields, it performs even better in some areas. The engineering program as Valpo is very strong, with majors in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It also offers studies in Computer Engineering.

Valpo also offers a great business school, and is strong in the fields of accounting and actuarial sciences. It offers some very good graduate studies in these areas, and some very successful alumni have come out of these programs.

The pre-med sciences at Valpo are also highly respected, as it is uncommon for a school of this size to offer specialty in pre-med. the pre-med program is designed to utilize chemistry and biology majors, and many students choose one or the other, or double major in both biology and chemistry.

The Theology department of Valparaiso is also put together very well, as it is a Lutheran school with the largest chapel of any university on its campus. Many professors of Theology have served in protestant churches as pastors as well, and most professors have earned a Ph.D in various Theological specialties.

Valparaiso has strong ties with the international academic community, and offers graduate studies Chinese studies as well. There is also a law school at Valparaiso, and many students from Valparaiso will go on to attend graduate studies there.

Valparaiso University was ranked #3 out of midwest colleges for their master's program as well.
