Valparaiso Slang

Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to VU. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.

  • U.S. Route 30.

  • ARC (Athletics Recreation Center).

  • Wehrenberg Hall (either the cafeteria or the dorm itself).

  • Christ College, Mueller Hall (the honors college—both the college and the building).

  • The Chapel of the Resurrection.

  • The grassy area behind the Chapel.

  • Desk Attendant.

  • The basement of Mueller Hall.

  • The upper-level lounge area in the Union, near the large fish tank.

  • The neighborhood just west of campus.

  • The huge, grizzled tree in Chapel Meadow.

  • The fraternity house neighborhood.

  • Technology Assistant (help you with computer problems in the dorms).

  • VUCA (Center for the Arts).

  • VUPD (Valparaiso University Police Department).

  • The student fan section at basketball games and other sporting events.
