The University of Tennessee does offer academic forgiveness. If your cumulative GPA falls below the minimum acceptable level of 2.0 or your semester GPA falls below a 2.0 for two consecutive semesters, you will be placed on Academic Probation for your next term. Being placed on Academic Probation is a warning that your academic performance needs improvement, and that you are in jeopardy of Academic Dismissal.

Students may select their major upon entering their freshmen year, but it is good to be sure to choose your major by the beginning of your junior year because this is when you are admitted into the college of your major and being upper level courses. It is also wise to begin by taking general education classes that are accepted by a wide number to majors just in case there is a chance you may decide to change your major at a later time.

Yes to all three!Students here seem to be very social; I can give you a few examples. First off, at least 1/2 of the floor that I live on has girls involved in sororites, which is a great way to make new friends and always have something going on. If you don't want that, there are also frisbee players, hookah groups, guitar-players, and other hang-out crowds around campus, both day and night. You can't expect to be involved in the social...

So far I really like the balance here...it seems like there is as much studying going on as partying (you just have to be in the right niche at the right time). Also, the food is nutritious and delicious, depending on where you go, of course. The thing I like least would have to be the overwhelming number of Greek system participants and over-bearing UT fans. It seems that unique style is hard to find here.

The difficulty of the class will depend on which class you're enrolled in. I'm currently taking 13 credit hours (love the load) and have 5 classes. So far, my political science 102 class has been the most demanding. One thing that's important to note is that there are far fewer grades in college than there are in high school; for instance, my political science grade consists of 3 written papers and 2 exams: that's it. This means that each of...

The University of Tennessee uses what is called the DARS report to determine how you are progressing towards your major. The Degree Audit Report System will be used each semester to determine where you are in progressing towards your chosen major from freshman year to senior year +. It is uncommon for freshman to choose a major and stick with that major for the years ahead. However, this system will guide you in choosing the classes you need...

All single enrolled freshman who are not commuting to campus from their parents or guardians house must live in a residence hall on campus. This is a strictly enforced policy at the University and for good reasons. It will help you experience campus better and you will feel bonded to the University on more than just a scholastic level.
Students venture off campus quite frequently due to our excellent public transportation system. We are within walking distance of downtown Knoxville and just a bus ride from two major malls that include movie theaters, shopping and dining. We have an excellent program here that offers opportunities to travel to dozens of countries all over the world.
