What is life like on campus? Does a lot of social activity take place on campus? Are there a lot of campus activities? How is campus dining? Posted by enotes on Aug 28, 2008. |

There a lot of social activities on campus at the University of Tennessee. Aside from the Greek system there are hundreds of other clubs to join. We have a fantastic new recreation center including a state of the art gym and Olympic sized swimming pool. In the recreation center there are various athletic based clubs including all major intramural sports. The website go.utk.edu has plenty of information to advise students on not only the available clubs but also how to start a club of their own. Student Life issues are all covered in out clubs system, from Gay students to International students to Religious organizations. I would say that the University of Tennessee has a very diverse and active student life population. Campus dining is FANTASTIC. We have a wide selection of fast food for all of you junk food junkies including chick fila, burger king, pizza hut, burgers, Starbucks, sbarro, quiz-nos and mcalisters deli. Also, UT Dining offers a variety of dining options that allow you to use area restaurants with "bonus bucks" that parents can add to their students accounts. With these they can dine downtown or on "the strip". And last but not least, UT dining has an excellent cafeteria located across from two of the largest dormitories that has the most excellent breakfast buffet I personally have ever had. You can always join a sorority or fraternity, but besides that, there are numerous events that take place every night. Whether you wish to join a club (http://www.asa.utk.edu/) or participate in random exercise activities (Cardio Hip Hop meets every Monday & Wed night around 8--see this site: http://recsports.utk.edu/Programs/Fitness/Documents/GF%20Fall%2008.pdf), or just join a group of people hanging out (I live in Massey and in the Grieve breezeway there are always people playing four square every night), there's always going to be something going on. During the day, campus is full of students studying, walking to class, or sleeping in the many grassy areas. It's a very nice atmosphere. So far I have been very pleased with campus dining. Sophie's, located in now-closed-for-living Strong Hall, always has a varied selection of food, and changes from day-to-day. Cereal, pizza (all kinds), fruit (strawberries, grapes, oranges, bananas, pears, apples, you name it), desserts (cookies, 6 flavors of ice cream, fancy cakes, brownies, sometimes even funnel cake bites), vegetarian/gluten-free options (rice & kidney beans, boca burgers, etc), home-cooked foods (pasta, mashed potatoes, cornbread, ham, mac & cheese, meatloaf, veggies), fried foods (grilled cheese, hot dogs, home-made chips, fries, all-day omelets, burgers), soup (2 kinds of soup a day), and the salad-bar are all there to choose from. You can visit www.utdining.com to browse other restaurants and cafeterias. Posted by asdf1003 on Sep 19, 2008. |
