Traditions
- Halloween on Franklin Street
Every year, thousands of people from Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, and other areas of the state come to Franklin Street to celebrate Halloween. Even if you don't like to dress up and join in all the Halloween festivities, at least go to Franklin Street and laugh at everyone else.
- I'll Do Anything for Basketball Tickets
Every year before the UNC and Duke basketball game, students sleep outside for tickets. Students who don't receive a ticket in the lottery have the possibility of getting leftover tickets if they do something really outrageous. Last year's winners consumed gallons of milk to get the much sought after tickets. Sometimes it can be downright disgusting what people will do for basketball tickets.
- Message Board
Students often paint the message board in the Pit to advertise their club's upcoming events.
- Streaking
UNC students have created a strange tradition of streaking through libraries and the Pit around finals time. You're likely to see some streakers before you graduate from UNC.
- Tar Heel Town
Before every football game, “Tar Heel Town” is created on the quad. Kids and Chapel Hill locals who are fans of UNC football get a chance to meet and chat with Carolina football players.
