University of North Carolina
Students Speak Out On Overall Experience
“Overall, I am glad I attend UNC at Chapel Hill because it's a well-known school throughout the nation. However, I do at times wish I were somewhere else because the social life for blacks is not that great. Academics can also be threatening when you walk into a class and you're the only black person or minority. Your success at Carolina will depend on your goals and how focused you are. My only advice is to not get caught up in the party scene your first year.”
“This school was not my first choice, but I'm glad that I ended up here. It's small enough so that you're not a nameless face in the crowd, but it's big enough that you can never stop meeting people and learning new things about the campus. The teachers, even those who teach classes with more than 400 people, try their best to be available to a student who needs one-on-one attention.”
