Do all freshman live on campus? Are roommates matched up well?

Posted by yelsayed on Friday September 5, 2008 at 1:38 PMWhile many freshman opt to live in on-campus housing, there are other options to living on or by the campus without having to actually go through UofM's housing system.
One popular resort is getting friends together and renting an apartment (many found right off of Main Street or by the IM building by Eisenhower). Another option is to live in a high rise (like Tower Plaza on East William Street or University Towers on South U). I personally lived in Tower Plaza all four years of undergrad and loved every experience. While many people avoid even looking at the cost of living at places like Tower Plaza or U Towers, if you have one or two decent roommates who wouldn't mind living with you (and visa versa) and are flexible with living out of one or two rooms containing one or two bathrooms, you can end up paying as low as $300-$400 for rent monthly (utilities not inclusive) and have the privacy of living in a high rise location in a prime location: the heart of central campus.

I had a wonderful roommate situation my freshman year, as did most of my friends. I even know people who continue to "go in blind" as sophomores and even juniors. If you and your roommate are having big problems, you can always request to switch rooms with someone. There is a big list in the fall of people that want to switch rooms. Or you can work things out with your RA.
