There are also many social clubs, besides the fraternities and sororities on campus. These clubs provide activities for any student interested in joining. There are so many to choose from, from Ball Room Dancing Club, to The Solar Car Team, to Men's Glee Club, to political clubs, and many more. Many of these clubs put on social events throughout the year to get more students interested in joining them. One great way to find out what is going...

In addition, professors usually are reachable, mostly through e-mail. The same holds true with the GSI's. Classes can be challenging, but the most important thing is to pace the work that you have to do for that class. Some classes, like Chem 210, do not have any kind of homework that is checked by anyone. There are practice problems of many kinds, in your books, online, and in the course pack for the class, but no one checks to make sure you...

If you are looking for a very nice place to live on North Campus, but not in the dorms, definitely check out The Courtyard Apartments. They are brand new and very, very nice. Plus, they are right next to the North Campus Recreation Building, and Bursley Hall, so you could still get a meal plan and eat at the cafeteria in Bursley, but not have to deal with the hassles of regular dorm life.

As far as roommates being partnered well, for the most part they are. I had a wonderful roommate situation my freshman year, as did most of my friends. I even know people who continue to "go in blind" as sophomores and even juniors. If you and your roommate are having big problems, you can always request to switch rooms with someone. There is a big list in the fall of people that want to switch rooms. Or you can work things out with...

To add to her response, there is a wonderful ZipCar program, where students can rent a car by the hour. There is a low membership fee, and then you pay only $8 an hour, which includes gas and insurance. My roommate even rented it for an entire day last year to go to Detroit with a bunch of her friends, so they could all split the cost of renting the car.

The environment off-campus is that of a small city. There are lots of retaurants, a decent mall, and there are always festivals and activities going on in Ann Arbor itself. Lots of students live off-campus, and there are enough bus routes that getting off-campus is easy even without a car. Plenty of students hang out off-campus, which is one of the advantages of having the university within the city.

As one of the top public universities in the country, the classes tend to be challenging. With an undergrad enrollment of 26,083, lectures tend to be a bit larger, reaching up to about 500 students. However, the student to faculty ratio is 15:1, and class sizes are usually between ten and 19 students. Professors hold office hours every week, and GSI's (graduate student instructors) hold weekly office hours as well. Classes usually follow a...

Yes, the students at the University of Michigan are very social. There are activities to suit any personality, from tons of cafés that are open late, to two movie theaters within walking distance, to various clubs such as Necto and Studio 4, to more house parties than can be counted on any given day of the week. People are very friendly and open, so it is always easy to find something to do. However, people here are also serious about school,...
