Posted by sen02004 on Friday September 19, 2008 at 6:42 AMAll UConn freshmen are guaranteed housing on campus. This doesn't mean that all freshmen have to live on campus. If you wanted, you could live off campus as a freshmen but I wouldn't recommend it. Almost all freshmen live on campus and so it's much easier to make friends if you live in a residence hall. The residence hall named North West is all freshmen and it's next to North which is predominantly freshmen also. So if you plan on attending UConn you will most likely live in one of these halls. See the link below for a virtual tour of UConn's residence halls.
In terms of roommates, a lot of who you get matched with is the luck of the draw. In the housing application UConn will ask you if you are clean or messy and if you like to study in the morning afternoon or at night and if you smoke. Those are really the only criteria they use to match people. Don't worry though if you find you hate your roommate it's not too hard to switch.

Posted by dlb06007 on Friday December 19, 2008 at 2:10 PMMost freshman live on campus for the sole reason that you cannot have a car your first two years. It is also much easier to make friends this way and there is not much in the surrounding area and really the campus is where you will be spending most of your time. Freshman are guaranteed housing and you fill out a questionnaire which will attempt to match you to a suitable roommate. However it is pretty easy to switch after if you don't get along.
