Freshman year is somewhat difficult because of the large class size, you have to be devoted. The professors are accessible but they will not seek you out if they feel you are having a problem, you need to go to them. Classes are challenging as this is one of the top schools in the country but they are fun. Once you get out of the general education classes and into your field you will find that classes are fun and small with around 25 people,...

The campus is located in an area where once you leave there isnt much to see or do, if you dont have a car then you are pretty much stuck. The closest town is about 15 minutes from campus and in it is a small strip mall, a movie theatre and a couple gas stations and restaraunts. Most students stay on campus throughout the semester, maybe venturing out to walmart but other than that all there is to do is go home. Luckily the campus is so large...

Most freshman live on campus for the sole reason that you cannot have a car your first two years. It is also much easier to make friends this way and there is not much in the surrounding area and really the campus is where you will be spending most of your time. Freshman are guaranteed housing and you fill out a questionnaire which will attempt to match you to a suitable roommate. However it is pretty easy to switch after if you don't get along.

What I like most about Uconn is all the activities that are available to the students. Uconn is large enough that it has something that caters to everyones interests. Uconn has over 250 student organizations that range from singing groups to horseback riding to TV and radio and political groups. Uconn also hosts tons of concerts and performing groups throughout the year, so there is always something to do.

You need to declare your major by the first semester of junior year or by your 5th semester at Uconn. You can however change your major at any time. It is a goo idea to think about what you are interested in when you sign up for your required courses and to also sign up for a variety of required general education courses. That way you will have a better idea of what you want to do when it comes time to declare your major.

All UConn freshmen are guaranteed housing on campus. This doesn't mean that all freshmen have to live on campus. If you wanted, you could live off campus as a freshmen but I wouldn't recommend it. Almost all freshmen live on campus and so it's much easier to make friends if you live in a residence hall. The residence hall named North West is all freshmen and it's next to North which is predominantly freshmen also. So if you plan on...
