UConn Slang

Know the slang, know the school. The following is a list of things you really need to know before coming to UConn. The more of these words you know, the better off you'll be.

The Co-op

The University store right next to Gampel in the center of campus.

DC

The Daily Campus, UConn's school newspaper

DP Dough

Despite the fact that this isn't slang, but the actual name of a restaurant, it's a calzone joint that delivers late. That should save you from saying: “you want to order WHAT right now?”

Dairy Barn

Three words: homemade ice cream. Check it out! If you follow North Eagleville road to its end when it meets 195, you'll see signs for it around the agriculture buildings.

The Fieldhouse

The Greer Fieldhouse next to Gampel.

FYE

First year Experience courses are customarily one credit classes designed for first-, or even second-year students looking to briefly delve into topics they have interest in.

Gampel

Gampel Pavilion, the giant dome that hosts men's and women's basketball.

Grab & Go

The dining service offered from lunchtime to late evening where you can purchase sandwiches and sides on the run to take to class, and use your meal blocks to purchase them.

The Jungle

North Campus, and applicably named—fun, but a little bit rough around the edges.

MSB

The math and science building located across from the North Quad.

Peoplesoft

Sucks. Get to know it, as you'll have to sit at your computer, clicking through its ridiculous menus every registration period. Register as soon as you can, as classes fill up unbelievably quickly.

The SU

The Student Union

SUBOG

Student Union Board of Governors. They plan on-campus activities from movie nights to concerts.

Sgt. Peps

Sgt. Pepperoni, a local pizzeria.
