This depends on which college you are enrolled in. If you are in the College of Engineering or the College of Environmental Design (Architecture), you will want to have your major decided before you begin your second year, because the curriculum is very strict and sequential. If you haven't decided by then, it will just take you longer than 4 years to graduate without summer school. If you are in the College of Arts and Sciences, you really don't have to choose until you are beginning your 3rd year because there are about 40 core credits that need to be fulfilled by all majors in the college and about 30 more that are free elective credits. For the Business and other schools like Music and Education, it is best to have decided your major during your second year. Aside from all this, it is not very difficult to switch majors at any time should you wish to do so.
