Posted by gbeatty on Thursday January 3, 2008 at 5:34 PMThe easiest example from the novel showing that Ophelia opposes slaveholding (or at least the current situation) is when she lectures St. Clare on how they should be treated, flatly stating what ought to be done. That she is still prejudiced is illustrated soon after that, when she says, "Why, I don't know, it seems so dreadful!" about Eva hanging on Uncle Tom. It seems wrong for Eva to touch him; that's prejudice.
