Guy Davenport Short Fiction Analysis

First and foremost, Guy Davenport was a practicing modernist in a postmodernist literary world. In much of his fiction, he employs standard modernist techniques, still called “experimental” by more conservative critics. By using methods usually associated with the visual art of collage, he juxtaposes images of the past with the present, hoping to demonstrate the persistent efficacious energies of the archaic and how they can still be used to redeem humankind from the relentless onslaught of mechanization.
