Oceania is at war with Eurasia, which, according to the Party, means they have always been at war with Eurasia. However, Winston remembers that four years ago they had been at war with Eastasia and allied with Eurasia.

He dreams his mother and sister are in a sinking ship while he watches them from above.

It is located in Winston’s mind. It is a beautiful rural scene that recurs in his dreams, representing another, Party-free way of life.

Doublethink is the act of holding opposites in your mind and considering both simultaneously possible, or to understand the truth while telling a lie, and believing in them both.
