    The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is narrated in the third person. This means that the narrator is watching the story unfold, but is not participating in the action. As a result, we know that none of the characters in the story are telling this tale. In the case of the Adventures of Tom Sawyer it is generally understood that Mark Twain is the narrator. This allows him to give his opinions or thoughts on situations within the storyline and therefore the world around him.
