    Jem is Jeremy "Jem" Finch and, he is four years older that Scout, the narrator of the novel; Jem is Atticus Finch's son.

    Scout is Jean Louise Finch a six year old girl, who narrates the story and is Jem's little sister and Atticus' daughter.

    Atticus Finch, Scout's and Jem's widowed father who is a well respected lawyer in Maycomb and appointed to defend the Negro Tom Robinson.

    "Uncle" Jack Finch is Atticus' brother; a doctor who left Maycomb to study in Boston.

    "Maudie Atkinson is a strong, supportive woman who lives across the street from the Finches."
