Maudie, like Atticus, treats Scout more like an equal and they talk about anything Scout wants to discuss. Jem believes "Boo" is dead and stuck up the chimney. Maudie thinks that Jem is like his Uncle Jack. Maudie tells Scout not to call Arthur by the name of "Boo" says Arthur stays in the house all the time because that's what he wants to do. Atticus told the children that “What Mr. Radley does is his own business.” He tells the children to leave Arthur alone. These views are not typical of most of the town of Maycomb and show Maudie and Atticus have more respect for the individual that others in the town,
