I taught this book to my 11th grade English class and tried to inspire curiosity for Science Fiction and History. I required my students to do a Time Traveler's Diary with seven entries. Each entry had to be a time in the past. No future travel on this journey. They all asked me where I would go, most of them had me figured out. They know I love reading and studying about the American Revolution. So my reply did not surprise them. My first stop, Declaration of Independence signing. I would need to really disguise myself, since I would not be allowed inside the building as a woman. Where would you go? Let's journey into the realm of H.G. Wells and get into the time machine. I am a Sci-Fi lover! Posted by pmiranda2857 on May 4, 2008. |

I would love to go back and tell my father to have his heart checked before he died of a massive heart attack, but history can't be changed. I live on property that was once a part of Andrew Jackson's plantation, the Hermitage. I would love to see what it looked like in his day. Posted by linda-allen on May 4, 2008. |

I would've loved to be at one of the Revolutionary War battles or when Abraham Lincoln was writing the Gettysburg Address. I have fascination with early American history and would've loved to have lived during that time. Posted by kwoo1213 on May 4, 2008. |

Being the Shakespeare fan that I am, I would opt to spend some time in Elizabethan England, hoping for a glimpse of the guy and catching some of his plays at the various theaters in London! And I would, of course, come prepared with antibiotics! :) Posted by malibrarian on May 5, 2008. |

Gosh! That is a hard one...there are so many places I would love to see, but I fear I would have been beheaded or burned as a witch! :) I would love to frolick with the dinosaurs and see them in action--not too close, mind you. I would not relish being an hors d'oeuvre. I would be thrilled to be a part of the Tudor Court and watch all of Henry's and Elizabeth's goings-on. Perhaps I could have warned Anne Bolyn not to be quite so flirtatious with the men of court? I would have enjoyed warning Abe Lincoln to have a headache the night of the play. It would have been wonderful to be at the concentration camps in Europe and smuggle food into the starving and save more children from their fates. I hate to think what humanity lost because of their deaths...the art, music, advancements in medicine, inventions, etc. I would have loved to witness the paiting of the Sistine Chapel. There are too many wishes to count...but it would be extremely difficult to observe and not change the outcomes. Fun question! Posted by amy-lepore on May 6, 2008. |

I'd like to visit Ancient Greece and see all the temples in the full splendor. I'd like to see the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World before they were lost. I'd like to pop into some ballot-counting places in Florida to find out what the heck was going on! (I would not hesitate to inflict some changes there...) I'd like to go back and tell people that have since died that I love them. I'd like to revisit the birth of each of my children (as a spectator this time!). I'd like to take some Prozac to Edgar Allan Poe (the guy had a tough life!), but of course, that might change the course of American Gothic Literature. I'd like to visit myself in my mid-twenties and say, "Skip the Accounting major, honey. Change it to English NOW instead of in seven years!" Oh, to have a time machine of my very own! I would love to go back and see Mark Twain on one of his lecture tours. I love the Victorian era, so I'd definitely set my time machine for the late 1800's, and pick up a bustle dress or two to bring home! (And a first edition of Huck Finn, while I'm there!)
