    I'm fond of the following lines:"Only much later did she realize she had forgotten to put any seeds in the ground."
    This is chapter 9, about Dede, and is nicely symbolic of her upset.
     And, of course, the first line of chapter 10 is nice:
    "I don't know how it happened that my cross became bearable."
