Posted by jamie-wheeler on Monday November 5, 2007 at 4:58 AMAs the eldest daughter, Patria has a bit more authority in the family and her opinions are respected and her advice often followed. In Ch 6, she insists that the family leave El Jefe's dance:
"We're going...His designs are so clear, Papa...We're exposing Minerva by staying here." ... Papa lists his shoulders and let them fall. "You young people know what to do."
In Ch 7, Maria Teresa expresses her love for her older sister in the section called "Thank you notes not yet written." Patria has given her a music box that plays "The Battle Cry of Freedom", "My Little Sky", and "There is Nothing Like a Mother." The selections reflect their mutual desire for freedom, how much she is loved, and her hopes for her sister to eventually have a baby.
