Although the story of the Mirabal sisters is divided into four parts (Minerva, Maria Teresa, Patria, and Dede (the only surviving sister)), I feel that Minerva is the strongest character.  Her name reflects her strength.  Minerva was the Roman goddess of warriors.  Indeed, this Minerva is strong and full of purpose.  It is she who leads her more reluctant sisters into the fight for freedom from the brutal dictatorship of Trujillo.

Minerva is continually described as strong, dedicated, and relentless in her pursuit of justice.
