Hemmings, F. W. J. The King of Romance: A Portrait of Alexandre Dumas. London: Hamish Hamilton, 1979. This is the best of the more recent biographies of Dumas. It includes a brief critique of The Three Musketeers.
Maurois, Andre. Alexandre Dumas: A Great Life in Brief. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1955. Although older and difficult to find, this biography serves as the basis of many more recent ones. It gives a very readable account of Dumas's life and includes a short section on The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo.
