Posted by gbeatty on Monday October 20, 2008 at 8:00 AMAriel's primary changes in the play are emotional and situational. That is to say, there is not much evidence of Ariel learning. Rather, at the start of the play, Ariel is Prospero's servant. Ariel serves with more or less good will, but continually pressures Prospero to remember his promise and release it (Ariel) from servitude. At the end of the play, Prospero releases Ariel.
