    Ariel says quite a bit. In Act I, Scene II, the spirit says the following:

    or grudge or grumblings. Thou did promise(295)
    distinctly,
    precursors(235)
    Neptune
    besiege and make his bold waves tremble,
    trident shake.(240"

    Each detail is evidence of Ariel's hard labor.

    When Prospero questions Ariel in 1.2 about the tempest that he had been commanded to orchestrate, Ariel very proudly assures Prospero that he obeyed his orders implicitly.  Prsopero asks:

    "Hast thou, spirit, performed to point the tempest that I bade thee?"  

    Ariel responds:

    "To every article."

    Throughout the remainder of the play Prospero commends Ariel for his faithful service.  At the end of the play just before he is set free, Ariel brings the Boatswain before Prospero.  As the astounded Boatswain relates his fantastic story of recovery, Ariel is delighted that he was responsible for saving the ship and crew. He asks Prospero:

    "Was't well done?"

    Of course, Prospero agrees it was.  Ariel seeks to please Prospero and eagerly awaits approval for his faithful service.
