(That's two points.) They are cowards and fools. They generate schemes with and for Caliban, and they seek to overturn the proper order of things on the island. This is in part due to ignorance, and in part due to greed. To put this another and more positive way, they are sailors who are far out of their element, and who are overwhelmed by the strangeness of it all.
