In Act I, scene 2, what evidence is there that Prospero is both a powerful and honourable character?

    Prospero does agree to free Ariel if he will help him batter the enemy's ship.) He promises, "Spirit, fine spirit, I'll free thee/Within two days for this." 1.2.423-424). To his credit, Prospero does free Ariel in Act 5.

    He is powerful because he has enough command and magic to do what he says he will do: punish the ship and make Ariel do his bidding. He is honorable because he carries through with his promise.
