Summary
Ariel, invisible to all except Prospero, appears as a “nymph o’ th’ sea,” playing and singing as he leads Ferdinand, the king’s son, onto the shore of the island. Addressing his invisible attendant spirits, Ariel instructs them to hush the “wild waves” into silence as they imitate the dance.
