This is a type of arabesque that Poe is famous for writing. He was able to delve deep into the inner workings of the deranged mind. Poe was a writer of the macabre and detective story. He is able to take the reader deep into the mind of the madman.
The narrator of "The Tell-Tale Heart" had to have a motive for committing the crime. In his confession, he tells all to the police.
