I was wondering if anyone in the group has used Moodle to as a course management system to develop online units or for a complete class? I understand it is a "free" product and very popular, but I was curious about the learning curve. Posted by urzula on Aug 19, 2008. |

I've never heard of Moodle. Can you give us a brief description of what it has to offer? Posted by linda-allen on Aug 19, 2008. |

Moodle is a good system to use. It is free and works well. My college considered going to Moodle instead of using Blackboard, but we have stuck with Blackboard thus far. I like Blackboard's features over Moodle's, but familiarity is probably why I prefer Blackboard. I've worked with it for 7 years. Posted by kwoo1213 on Aug 19, 2008. |

I've never used Moodle myself, but I have a colleague who has nothing but good things to say about it. He says it's really user friendly. Posted by katemschultz on Aug 22, 2008. |

Blackboard has more features but is harder to use. Moodle is free and is open source so in theory, down the road, it could add any feature that Blackboard has. Personally I think one-size-fits-all solutions for classrooms are not great, since the web offers so many opportunities to use different technologies where appropriate, and often for free. However I understand why large districts etc. would like to have things standardized. Posted by blazedale on Aug 22, 2008. |

I personally find Blackboard easy to use. Blackboard is used by our entire college and everyone who teaches hybrid and/or Internet courses must use Blackboard for standardization. Posted by kwoo1213 on Aug 22, 2008. |

I have been using Moodle with my high school seniors (English class) since school began. I like it. I have my assignments on there, links to readings online, links to research for our research paper, quizzes for them to practice before exams, etc. I also like the discussion forums. I can ask a question, and each student has to respond on his own before he can view others' responses. It holds each kid responsible for discussion instead of having 4 kids run the class. I am using Moodle has well. Have you uploaded all your own courses on line, or have you had a technician help? Any tips for quiz development and uploads? Posted by coachshera on Nov 1, 2008. |
