    I have used this novel by S.E. Hinton as a teaching tool for many years in my English class for at risk students.  Travis is at risk at the beginning of the novel.  He is at risk of losing his temper, his education, and his chance at a successful life.  He is angry and he thinks he is entitled.  Travis arrives at the ranch with a huge chip on his shoulder, but it doesn't stay there.  Check out the enotes section for more information.
