Posted by pohnpei397 on Friday November 13, 2009 at 8:33 PMThe Induction to The Taming of the Shrew is set near "an alehouse on a heath" (Scene 1) and in "A bedchamber in the Lord's house" (Scene 2). These places are in some unspecified part of England. The rest of the play is set in Padua, Italy.
The purpose of the induction is to introduce themes that will be prominent in the play. These are:
- The tension between social classes and
- The question of whether a person's nature (inborn personality) is more important than nurture (the setting/culture in which they live) in determining what the person will be like.
