Is this book a true story? If so is there any information about Anton's Grandfather? Or more about the ring?

I'm doing a project on a journal from the ring's perspective. So any info on Anton's family or anymore about the ring would be helpful! thanks!

    Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene is a fictional story, however, several aspects of the story do mirror the author's life. Bette Greene, just like Patty, was a Jewish girl growing up in a southern town, and had experienced some discrimination in her life. Her family also owned a store, just like the Bergmans, where Bette may have seen prisoners of war. Anton's character is fictional, however, and the friendship between Patty and Anton is made up. The character of Ruth is based on Bette Greene's real life housekeeper, who was very influential in her life.
