Posted by pmiranda2857 on Friday August 22, 2008 at 2:47 PMAfter Anton leaves, she treasures the ring that he gave her. When she is feeling bad, she kisses the ring to help her feel better. Then she decides that she wants to show the ring to others, making up a lie to cover herself.
Her lies about the ring get her in more trouble with her father. She tells her father that the old man gave her the ring, because she gave him food, and because he thought she was a wonderful, special girl that anyone would love to have as a daughter.
Even though Patty is severely punished, she comes away with a feeling of being able to cope with real life.

Patty improves her self esteem by trying to learn a better vocabulary so that she may impress those older than she and by trying to make her father like her.
