The character Hagar holds strong moral beliefs and forms lasting opinions about the merits of every person she knows. She is not shy about expressing these opinions, in spite of the fact that her words rarely help the situation.
This is a good novel to read before discussions about consequences to moral or ethical choices. We are shown the consequences of every choice Hagar ever makes. Hagar believes that her morals and ethics are the best, and it is devastating to her to discover when her clothing, statements or behavior are no longer proper. Hagar learns little regret...
