I think that any project on this book should center on the idea of silence and reclamation of voice.  Bearing this in mind, one question I would ask would be how Melinda is received after the party is broken up and when her silence starts.  The answer would be that she is received with scorn and rejection by the social order.  Another question I would pose would be when Andy confronts her about the rape and accuses her of being jealous.  The question I would ask is what Melinda has in her hand as she screams.  The answer would be a mirror, to symbolize the moment when she was able to accurately reflect the reality of the situation.  The reflection of Andy's true nature and Melinda's silence became apparent to all, unable to be denied as a mirror of incorruptibility shows to all the truth of the reality between both Andy and Melinda.
