    "The Solitary Reaper" is a pastoral poem, typical of the English Romantics and their glorification of nature and the common man. In the opening stanza, the speaker has seen a Highland girl reaping grain, singing while she reaps. This beautiful scene has transported the speaker, a feeling the speaker describes in the second and third stanzas.

    In the fourth and final stanza, the speaker's reverie has ended and he leaves, the reaper's song still echoing in his mind.
