I am writing my term paper and I am touching on the subject on men instinctively protecting women. My professor advised me to look under the wiring of the brain and he also mentioned something about "channels in the brain". If you have any REFERENCE, OPINION, or KNOWLEDGE on the subject please let me know!

I have not heard of any studies that establish that brains of men are hard wired to protect women. I believe men protect women for reasons such as:

  • Socially and culturally women are associated with honour of a man, his family and the society. Men protect women to protect their own honour and ego.
  • Men are protecting women just as they would protect any near and dear one such as a family member or a friend. However, men being physically stronger, adopt a more prominent role in protecting women than women can take in protecting women. This logic is also supported by the fact that women take more more active role in protecting her children. In this respect it appears quite probable that females of most of the more evolved animals are hard wired to protect their young ones.
  • Frequently men are better placed to protect women also by virtue of their being better placed in terms of economic freedom.

We also need to consider the possibility that men are not really more protective of women than women are of men. For example in sickness of someone in family or a friend, women in generally display grater concern and care. This is also protection.
