catchups,

as I am not a professional of psychology or sociology, i can only endow you to a piece of literature that may be of great interest to your study.
The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath, will be an excellent read for your topic research, along with some of the autobiographies of Sylvia Plath. The author suffered mental illnesses which eventually lead to her death, just months after she finished The Bell Jar.

I hope this has been of some help

I would also look at laws when it comes to dealing with patients and patient care. You could also look at nursing principles and practice.  Perhaps they have a code of conduct.
