It has been said that every short story begins as a question in the author's mind. Assuming this is true, which question led him to write "Silent Snow, Secret Snow"?

I think only the author can answer this question. The story is about a young boy's desire to escape the real world and live in a snow-covered world, where everything is clean. I have not read the story, but I have seen Rod Serling's televised version on the old series "Night Gallery." According to critics, the boy is "descending into madness," even schizophrenia. In Serling's version, it seems like he is just eager to escape reality. So could we say that maybe the author was displeased with the world around him and wondered what it might be like to live in a cleaner world?
