In addition, he must do his best to prepare the homestead for the presence of his family while caring for the family livestock and crops. Fortunately, he receives assistance from Native Americans living nearby and is able to survive and flourish. After being left alone in the wilderness, Matt is confronted with numerous obstacles. Through the discoveries and challenges he encounters, Matt becomes a young man.
