“KISS THE ROD”
“KISS THE ROD,” which means “submit to one’s master,” is a phrase best remembered for its uses in Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Richard the Second, but it appears in Sir Philip Sidney’s Arcadia, written in the 1580s and published around 1590.
