Shakespeare A to Z | Globe Theater
The Globe is the theater principally associated with the production of Shakespeare’s plays. Richard Burbage, a leading actor of the day, and his brother, Cuthbert, built the theater in Southwark, on the bank of the River Thames, during the winter of 1598–1599. It was constructed largely from the timbers of the Burbages’ old playhouse, known simply as the Theater, which had been built in 1576.
