The settings and scenarios* of Shakespeare’s plays reflect the world of his time, a world that included much violence and many battles. From the emotional sword fights of Romeo and Juliet to the grand battle scenes of Henry V and Macbeth, the plays are filled with clashing weaponry. Elizabethan audiences were familiar with the weapons and armor of the time, but for the modern reader the references to arms and armor in the plays may become clearer with some background information.
