Shakespeare A to Z | All's Well That Ends Well
Shakespeare’s comedy All’s Well That Ends Well deals with the problematic romantic relationship between a nobleman and a commoner. The play is harsher than most of the playwright’s other comedies in its view of human nature. The behavior of the main characters is often selfish and deceitful, and the ending leaves the audience with the uneasy feeling that, in real life, there may be no “happily ever after.” Because the play blends its dark outlook with a humorous style, most scholars consider All’s Well That Ends Well one of Shakespeare’s “problem plays.”
