Walter's wife catches him in one of his daydreams.  He's been in and out of them all day long, and she has to physically clasp his shoulder to get him to "come to." When he replies that he was only "thinking," she says that she'll have to check his temperature when they get home.  She says this for two reasons, really.  First, she sees that he's not paying attention and perhaps he's not feeling well.  Second, she is a nagging wife who pushes him around and has him do the little jobs like get the puppy biscuits, etc.  By taking him home and taking his temp, she is running his life as normal.  That is her role (so she thinks) and it fits her personality.
