What does the quote in chapter two in "The Secert Life of Bees" mean?

The quote is "On leaving the old nest, the swarm normally flies only a few meters and settles. Scout bees look for a suitable place to start the new colony. Eventually, one location wins favor and the whole swarm takes to the air."

    This quote has many potential interpretations, but for one, think of the main character, Lily.  She feels alienated from her home, eventually "scouts" out a new home that is "suitable", one where she feels accepted and loved, and where she will settle.
