What is the purpose of the enzyme helicase and how does it operate?

    The purpose of the helicase enzyme is DNA replication.

    How does it operate? It unwinds the double helix at the replication fork and unzips the parental DNA strand. The SSBs (single strand binding) proteins stabilize the unwound DNA in front of the fork.
